The average export price of chilled and frozen beef in December 2022 was $3,926 per ton . This value is 6.3% lower than in November last year and 29.6% lower than the December 2021 average price of usd 5,579 per tonne.
Over the past eight months, there has been a steady downward trend in mainstream prices since May, and the average price of $3,926/t received in December is $2,375/t lower than the high recorded in April.
“The People's Republic of CHINA is the top export destination for both December and the year. Last month , 7.91 thousand tons of MEAT on the bone and beef bones worth $9.4 million and about 30.2 thousand tons of boneless beef worth $110.9 million were shipped to China ,” said Mario Ravettino, President of the ABC Consortium.
Thus, China accounted for 80.3% of export volumes in December 2022 and 77.6% of the total for the year. The average selling price of boneless meat to China in December 2022 was around $3,676 per tonne, a clear decline from the high of $5,900 hit in May last year.
Chilled boneless meat shipments to the Netherlands dropped sharply, with 915 tons shipped in December, down -59.9% from 2,282 tons in November.
There was also a slight to moderate drop in chilled boneless meat destined for Germany, mainly due to reduced activity within Hilton's tariff quota. At the same time, average beef prices were the lowest for the year during the last two months of 2022.
Shipments of certified kosher meat destined for Israel recovered from the previous month, with just over 1,150 tons of chilled meat and 722 tons of frozen meat shipped in December. Average prices were about $1,400 per ton.
There has been a steady supply of beef to the United States, which purchased about 1350 tons in the last month of December, with an average price that is recovering from November, especially in the case of the frozen product.
Since the beginning of September, there has been a sharp drop in prices offered by Chinese importers, which was fully confirmed by the data of foreign trade in beef over the past month. December prices in China were 33.5% lower than in August last year.
