Volume and total value of exports

From January to April 2024 , Spanish pork exports reached 932.2 thousand tons, an increase of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2023 (927.0 thousand tons). The EXPORT value amounted to 2,900.2 million euros, down 0.3% from the previous year (2,908.3 million euros).

Main directions

China: continues to be the top destination in terms of volume (18.1% of total exports), although it saw a significant decline in export volume by 14.3% and export value by 27.6%.

Italy and France remain strong, with Italy accounting for 10.4% of volume and 8.9% of value and France 10.2% of volume, but for the first time they surpass CHINA in value, accounting for 11.7% of Spain's total pork exports by value and ranking first.

Other important markets include Portugal, Japan and the Philippines, with market shares and values ​​varying.

Export structure

Fresh produce accounts for 93.1% of total export volume and 82.4% of total value. Volume increased by 0.4%, while value decreased by 1.3%.

Processed products account for 6.9% of the volume and 17.6% of the total value. The volume of exports decreased by 4.9%, while the value increased by 6.5%.

Comparison by years

Significant growth: Exports to France and SOUTH KOREA increased in both volume and value.

Significant declines: China and the Philippines saw significant declines in both parameters.

Conclusions

The Spanish pig sector has seen a slight increase in total export volumes, although the total value of exports has fallen slightly. Market diversification has partly offset the decline in key destinations such as China. Fresh products still account for the majority of exports, but the value of processed products has shown a notable increase.
