The largest reduction in imports was noted for whey (-49%, a decrease in supplies from Belarus, Argentina), SPM (-49%, Belarus, New Zealand, Argentina, Uruguay), SOM (-32%, Belarus, Turkey, Iran, Switzerland, Argentina), cheese products (-21%, Belarus), whole MILK products (-21%, Belarus), butter (-16%, Belarus, New Zealand), fermented milk products (-11%, Belarus).
 



Imports of cheese (+21%, Belarus, Argentina, Serbia), ice cream (+21%, Belarus, France) and cottage cheese (+0.3%, Belarus, Switzerland) increased.




According to the Federal Customs Service of RUSSIA, in November 2018, cheese imports to the Russian Federation turned out to be a record - 41.3 thousand tons. The last time such volumes were imported was in September-October 2012 (41.2 and 40.0 thousand tons, respectively). . The average monthly volume of imports today is about half of the indicated volume. Belarus provided the entire increase, supplying 34.5 thousand tons of cheese to Russia in November, with an average monthly indicator in 2017-2018. 13.5 thousand tons.





The main dairy products imported by Russia are still cheese and cottage cheese (≈42% of all imports according to the preliminary results of 11 months of 2018 in value terms), butter (about 18%), milkand dry and condensed cream (13%), including SMP (7%) and SPM (3%), whole milk products without sour milk and cottage cheese (8%), sour milk products (7%) and cheese / cheese-like products (8% ).



The reduction in imports in 2018 kept the domestic market from a more significant drop in prices in the commodity sector and contributed to the reduction of record stocks of finished products, however, stocks are still at a high level, which, together with the growth of commodity production, may become an incentive for the development of dairy exports in 2019 year.
