May 31, Brest. A COURT in Baranovichi has delivered a verdict in a criminal case of a traffic accident committed while intoxicated, with a fatal outcome, BelTA learned from the press service of the Brest Regional Court.

A 41-year-old resident of Baranovichi found himself in the dock. The tragedy occurred late in the evening on February 25 on the 3rd km of the road H281 Gorodishche - Kutovshchina - Karchevo - the border of the Grodno region. A man, driving a Volkswagen Polo car while intoxicated , did not choose a safe speed and lost control of the road at the rounding of the road. The car skidded, she flew into a ditch and crashed into a tree. As a result of an accident, a 28-year-old passenger received serious bodily injuries, from which he died. it was determined that he was not wearing a seat belt.

The court found the defendant guilty under part 4 of article 317 (violation of the rules of the road and the operation of vehicles by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, negligently resulting in the death of a person) of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison to be served in a correctional colony under general regime conditions. He was also deprived of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for 8 years.

From the civil defendant - the owner of the vehicle - Br25 thousand was recovered as compensation for moral damage in favor of the mother of the deceased, his minor daughter - Br15 thousand.

The verdict has not entered into force and can be appealed and protested in the prescribed manner.
