MINSK . The Smorgon District Department of the Investigative Committee is investigating the circumstances of the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, which resulted in
the death of a local resident through negligence, the Investigative Committee told BELTA.
According to investigators, on the morning of a workday on July 31, two villagers (ages 42 and 58) from the Smorgon District decided to have a drink. While drinking together, they had a conflict, during which the 42-year-old man kicked his acquaintance out. Once outside, he kicked the 58-year-old villager in the back. The man fell to the ground, after which the attacker continued beating him. He inflicted at least 15 punches and kicks to various parts of the body, causing grievous bodily harm, and then went into the house, leaving his acquaintance outside.
Passing villagers noticed the local resident lying by the road and informed his relatives. The man was taken home, where he went to bed. The next morning, his wife discovered his lifeless body.
An investigative team was working at the scene. The suspect was questioned. His testimony was also verified at the scene, and he recounted the circumstances of the crime. A background investigation revealed that he had previously been charged with the intentional destruction of property. He is unemployed and a heavy drinker. The 42-year-old
man's actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 147 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim through negligence) of the Criminal Code. He has been remanded in custody. A final legal assessment of the local resident's actions will be made based on the results of the investigation. Investigators will pay particular attention to the causes and circumstances that contributed to the commission of this particularly serious crime.
