Grodno resident hanged dog on tree. Investigative Committee conducted investigation

26 May, MINSK . The Grodno inter-district department of the Investigative Committee (IC) has established the circumstances of cruel treatment of an animal, BELTA learned from the IC.

On the afternoon of 18 March this year, the news about a dog hanged on the outskirts of the regional center flew around all the city chats. it turned out that the inhumane act was the work of a 35-year-old local resident.  

According to the materials of the criminal case, in the summer of 2024 , the man found an ad on the Internet that the owners were giving away a dog for free. On the same day, the Grodno resident became the owner of a puppy. The man told the investigator that around March 2025, the dog began to relieve itself in the apartment. He also explained that the dog was periodically sick. However, instead of helping the animal and turning to a specialist for help, the resident of the regional center decided to act radically.

On the evening of 17 March, he and his wife went for a walk with the dog. Approaching the private sector, the man asked his wife to wait. He himself went further with the dog, from where he returned alone.Law enforcement officers established that near one of the private houses, the suspect hung the dog on a rope, which he used for walking. At the same time, he explained to the investigator that he initially thought about letting the dog go, and did not think about placing the animal in a shelter. His wife did not see the moment of the animal's murder, but she understood that the man dealt with the pet.  

An examination of the personality of the detainee showed that he had not previously been brought to criminal responsibility, abuses ALCOHOL, is registered with a drug addiction specialist, and does not have a permanent place of work. The

Grodno inter-district department of the Investigative Committee charged the 35-year-old resident of the regional center under Part 1 of Article 339-1 (cruelty to an animal, resulting in its death, committed out of hooliganism and other base motives) of the Criminal Code.
