September 10, MINSK . A Baranovichi resident decided to take revenge on his ex-wife by setting her house on fire, the Brest Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate told BelTA.

The duty station of the Baranovichi City Executive Committee's Department of Internal Affairs received a report from the Ministry of Emergency Situations on duty that a house was on fire on a street in Baranovichi. An investigative team was dispatched to the scene.

At the scene of the emergencyLaw enforcement officers quickly established what had happened.

The owner of the burned-down house shared her suspicions. She suspected her 68-year-old ex-husband, who currently has no permanent address, was behind the fire. She explained that the man had come to her house during the day and asked for money and food. His ex-wife had packed him some food but refused to give him any money. The ex-husband was displeased and threatened to burn everything down. After these words, the 67-year-old owner of the house sent the unwanted guest away.

That night, the woman was awakened by a crackling sound and intense heat. She immediately ran outside and asked her neighbors to call the emergency services.

Patrol officers apprehended the arsonist, who was located near the complainant's home. The pensioner confessed to the crime, explaining that he had wanted to frighten his ex-wife. He entered the yard and set fire to a cardboard box, which he had placed on top of his work clothes in a closet near the wall of the house . After this, the man left the yard.

Due to the actions of the ex-husband, the house burned down, the material damage is estimated at Br36 thousand. At the time of the crime, the man was in a stateALCOHOL intoxication .

Investigators have provided a legal assessment of the pensioner's actions. A criminal case has been opened.
