March 3rd,
Vitebsk . A roundtable
discussion on cancer prevention brought together healthcare professionals and senior citizens at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary, BelTA reports.
The roundtable discussion, "Prevention, Modern Methods of Early Cancer Diagnosis, and Rehabilitation Methods for Cancer Patients," attracted interest not only from healthcare professionals but also from ordinary citizens who care about their
HEALTH . Some of those attending have already survived a devastating diagnosis. Those who have family and friends with cancer also participated. "Our Constitution states that we are responsible for our health, and therefore we strive to gain knowledge from all sources on how to take care of ourselves and avoid serious illnesses," noted the roundtable participants.
Specialists from the regional oncology dispensary told the audience that cancer is not a fatal diagnosis, and that if detected early,
it can be cured. Doctors cited statistics: one in nine men and one in 12 women die from cancer, and this usually occurs in the late stages. This is why it is important to diagnose benign or malignant tumors early. Participants learned that cancer prevention requires a healthy diet, including healthy and vitamin-rich foods, and giving up unhealthy habits like
ALCOHOL and cigarettes. Incidentally, smoking affects the development of cancer not only in the lungs, as previously believed, but also in the larynx and oral mucosa. Physical activity, such as
running , swimming, cycling, and skiing, helps maintain good health
. Breast cancer is one of the most aggressive forms for women. It is dangerous because it can metastasize. While previously the risk group primarily involved women aged 40-60, this oncological disease is now also found in younger women aged 20-25. The main preventative measure is self-examination, as well as regular visits to a gynecologist, who will refer you for further examinations with a mammologist if necessary.
Men should also take care of their prostate health. Sometimes, 15-20 years pass between stages I and IV prostate cancer. Doctors recommend that men not ignore any signs of the disease and seek medical attention at the first sign of trouble.
Skin cancer is another dangerous disease, the second most common among women and the fourth most common among men. Oncology specialists recommend that any new growths be examined to rule out cancer and initiate treatment promptly.
The speakers demonstrated visually what precancerous ulcers and plaques can look like, which are also important to pay attention to. Since the human
body is largely symmetrical, it's worth worrying if something appears on one side that wasn't there before, such as lumps in the lymph nodes.
The main conclusion the roundtable participants drew was:
Taking care of your health, reducing risk factors that contribute to the development of cancer, and undergoing annual medical examinations.
