March 29, Minsk. From April 5, Japan is introducing a ban on the export of luxury goods to Russia, including expensive cars and precious stones, TASS reports.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Koichi Hagiuda said today that the government has decided to impose a ban on the export of luxury goods to Russia, including premium cars, precious stones, and jewelry. The ban comes into effect on April 5. According to the minister, his country will continue to maintain close coordination with the international community, primarily with the Group of Seven, on the issue of anti-Russian sanctions due to a special military operation in Ukraine.

The list compiled by the department includes a total of more than 20 items of goods. The list includes alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, perfumes, cosmetics, leather and fur products, clothes, shoes, hats, carpets, jewelry and ceramics, glassware, diving equipment, cars and motorcycles, laptops, watches (models with use of precious metals), grand pianos, fine arts, antiques. The volume of Japanese exports to Russia in 2021 amounted to 862.4 billion yen ($6.9 billion) in monetary terms. More than half of this figure accounted for cars and spare parts.
