A Vitebsk resident was injured in a drunken stabbing. Investigators have revealed details of the criminal case.

March 21, Vitebsk . A resident of the Liozno district attacked a Vitebsk resident with a knife during a drunken drinking party, and the victim suffered serious bodily injuries. This was reported to a BelTA correspondent by Oksana Lazko, official spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of the Vitebsk Region.

According to the investigation, on the afternoon of January 12, a relative of the homeowner brought a 44-year-old friend, a resident of the Liozno district, to a vacant apartment in Vitebsk, where only a cat lived. A short time later, a 35-year-old local resident, who was looking after the cat, arrived. The guest was invited to a table , where everyone began drinking alcohol . A conflict ensued between the men, and the Vitebsk resident struck the woman's friend. After reconciliation and more drinking, the older man decided to take revenge on his attacker. He stabbed the resident of the regional center, causing him to bleed. The woman ran to her neighbors, asking for an ambulance. Medics and law enforcement arrived at the scene . The attacker was detained.

The investigator questioned the defendants, conducted confrontations and a forensic experiment, and added expert reports to the case file. According to these reports, the victim's blood was found on the clothing of the accused and the witness, as well as on the murder weapon. A scent trace of the 44-year-old man was found on the knife handle . Stab wounds were found on the Vitebsk resident's clothing.

According to a forensic psychiatric examination, at the time of the crime, the accused was aware of the actual nature and social danger of his actions and was able to control them. The collected characterization material revealed that the man had previously been convicted of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.

Based on the investigation, the resident of the Liozno district was charged under Part 3 of Article 147 (intentional causing grievous bodily harm, committed repeatedly) of the Criminal Code. With the prosecutor's approval , he was remanded in custody. The defendant faces a prison sentence of between 5 and 15 years.

Investigators point out that alcohol abuse often leads to tragic consequences. "In the first two months of 2025 , 210 crimes committed while intoxicated were recorded in the Vitebsk region . Under the influence of alcohol, people often lose control of their actions, which can manifest itself in aggressive behavior. Drinking with strangers is especially risky, as it can lead to conflicts or violence.
