News topic June 10, Grodno. A resident of the Volkovysk region was sentenced to 20 years in prison for crimes related to drug trafficking and resulting in the death of a person. BELTA was informed about this in the Grodno Regional COURT.

The defendant, who was repeatedly convicted, purchased at least 0.0609 g of methadone in RUSSIA during the period from December 27 to December 28, 2023. He used some of the drug. After this, being in a state caused by the use of narcotic drugs, and in a stateALCOHOL intoxication , illegally transported a narcotic drug to Belarus for the purpose of sale and personal consumption , consuming alcoholic beverages during the trip.

In Vaukavysk, he donated some methadone to a friend. I consumed it and the woman died from acute poisoning. The accused continued to store the rest of the methadone in the deceased’s apartment. However, he soon realized the consequences of his illegal actions and tried to get rid of the rest of the drug by throwing it in a trash can at the entrance of one of the houses in Vaukavysk. Court found the accused guilty of illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of a particularly dangerous drug for the purpose of sale, of the illegal sale of a particularly dangerous drug committed by a person who had previously committed crimes under Article 328 of the Criminal Code, which negligently resulted in the death of a person as a result of its consumption narcotic drug. He was also found guilty of illegally transporting a particularly dangerous drug across the state border of the Republic of Belarus.

In accordance with Part 3 of Article 72 of the Criminal Code, by partial addition of sentences, the accused was finally sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 20 years without a fine.

Also, in accordance with Part 1.2 of Article 107 of the Criminal Code, compulsory treatment for drug addiction was applied to the accused.

It was decided to recover procedural costs in a criminal case from the accused at the expense of the state - Br1684.

The court verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed and protested in the manner prescribed by law.
