A man died in a fire in a dormitory in Volkovysk

November 17, Grodno. A hostel in Vaukavysk was on fire last night, and a man died in the fire. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Grodno Regional Emergency Situations Ministry.

By the time rescuers arrived, there was heavy smoke on the first floor of the five-story dormitory. The fire was located in one of the rooms.

“Having assessed the situation, we organized teams of rescuers to evacuate people from the danger zone, search for victims and extinguish the fire,” said Vadim Smolik, senior assistant to the HEAD of the operational control center of the Volkovysk district department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations .

While conducting reconnaissance in the burning room, emergency workers found an unconscious 57-year-old man. He was taken out into clean air and handed over to the emergency medical team. Resuscitation efforts did not bring results; doctors declared the victim dead .

Rescuers found a 40-year-old local resident in the next room. Having put a special mask on him to protect his respiratory organs, the man was taken out of the building. After examination, he was allowed to go home in satisfactory condition.

Rescuers evacuated 36 people from the hostel, including 7 children. They did not require medical assistance; after ventilation, the residents returned to their rooms.

The fire was extinguished within half an hour. Most likely, it was caused by careless smoking.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, since the beginning of this year, 140 fires have occurred in the Grodno region due to careless smoking. 33 people died in them, most were in a stateALCOHOL intoxication .
