The Vitebsk regional department of the Investigative Committee disclosed the details of the investigation of a criminal case on car theft and an accident in which two people were injured. According to the investigation, on May 17 of this year, the company in the Vitebsk region drank alcohol on vacation. At the same time, during the day, the owner of the VAZ-2101 handed over the keys to her car to a 30-year-old man so that he would take vacationers from one village to another. As soon as the owner of the car fell asleep, a 30-year-old resident of the Vitebsk region stole her car. He went with two acquaintances to the village of Glazomichi. At the roundabout of the road, the man lost control, drove into the oncoming lane, allowed the car to skid and drove into a ditch, where the vehicle overturned. After the accident, the man who was driving the car got out of it on his own and left the scene. As a result of the accident, two passengers were seriously injured.Citizens who were passing near the scene of the accident called an ambulance and contacted law enforcement officers. The police quickly found out the whereabouts of the man who was driving and detained him. It was found that the defendant was driving at a speed of about 100 km/h. He did not have a driver's license and was intoxicated. During a medical examination, ethyl alcohol was found in his blood at a concentration of 2.95 ppm.
The investigators questioned the witnesses, the victims and the accused. Specialists of the SCSE conducted a number of studies, the conclusions of which were studied and attached to the materials of the criminal case. A confrontation has been made. It was found that the driver had previously been prosecuted for intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, evasion from serving a sentence in the form of restriction of freedom and failure to comply with the rules of preventive supervision. Based on the results of the investigation, the defendant was charged under part 1 of article 214 (hijacking) and part 4 of article 317 (violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated , resulting in negligent infliction of grievous bodily injury) of the Criminal Code. A measure of restraint in the form of detention was applied to him.
The Investigative Committee added that the woman who handed over the keys to the car to a drunk man was brought to administrative responsibility.
