23 April,
MINSK . Maxim Tarasov, Deputy
HEAD of the Main Department for Waste Management, Biological and Landscape Diversity Regulation - Head of the Waste Management Regulation Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, spoke at a press conference about how Belarus is working to increase the production of environmentally friendly packaging, BELTA reports.
"In order to increase the sale of products in glass packaging, various retail outlets are required to have soft drinks, mineral and drinking water in glass containers, as well as paper bags, disposable tableware and paper cutlery. At the same time, the number of types of plastic bags and plastic tableware has been minimized," Maxim Tarasov noted.
He said that in 2023, an investment project was also completed to create a glass container production facility using innovative energy-efficient resource-saving technologies at the Grodno Glass Factory OJSC facility in order to increase the production of glass containers and expand its range. Lightweight bottles are produced there, the range of colors and shapes of glass bottles has been expanded. As a result of the implementation of this project, the production of glass containers was organized on three lines of a glass-melting furnace with a capacity of 220 tons of glass per day.
"In the field of production and use of environmentally friendly packaging in Belarus, work is constantly underway to create new and modernize existing packaging made of paper, cardboard, glass, including disposable tableware. The key manufacturers of environmentally friendly packaging in the country are the pulp and paper enterprises of the Bellesbumprom concern. Corrugated
cardboard and
packaging made of
it are a market alternative to polymer packaging," said the head of the waste management regulation department of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
For example, since 2020, as a result of the modernization of the existing paper-making machine at the unitary enterprise "Paper Factory" of Gosznak, the annual productivity of packaging paper with barrier properties has increased by 300 tons compared to 2019. "The growth rate of production of environmentally friendly packaging in 2023 amounted to 108% of the 2022 level. In addition, a corrugated cardboard production line was put into operation at the Vitebsk Cardboard and Printing Plant Pokrovsky OJSC in 2022. As a result, the growth rate of production of corrugated cardboard products in 2023 compared to 2022 amounted to 118%," concluded Maxim Tarasov.
