Villager arrested in Gomel region for shooting

August 14, MINSK. In the Chechersk district of the Gomel region, a villager was arrested for shooting, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Yesterday, at about 10 pm, the Chechersk District Department of Internal Affairs received a message: shots were heard in the village of Volosovichi. Police officers immediately rushed to the spot.

According to preliminary information, a 62-year-old local resident hit his cohabitant during a quarrel, and when she tried to run away, he started shooting at her. The victim managed to hide with the neighbors. Later, the man set fire to his house and fled. "As a result of search activities, at about 1.20 am, the regional riot police detained a villager. The man was in a state of alcoholic intoxication , a sawn-off shotgun of an unregistered smooth-bore hunting rifle and a knife were confiscated from him. The firearm was loaded with two cartridges, the hammers were cocked," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The incident is under investigation.
