November 24, Gomel. 19 pedestrians were killed on the roads of the Gomel region in January-October of this year. In order to prevent such accidents, from November 24 to 29, traffic police officers will carry out a preventive action "Become more visible in the dark," BelTA learned from the department for agitation and propaganda of the traffic police department of the regional executive committee.
The UGAI drew attention to the fact that the most unprotected category of road users were and remain pedestrians and cyclists. "Over 10 months of this year, 106 accidents occurred in the Gomel region with the participation of pedestrians, in which 92 people were injured of varying severity and 19 died. 27 accidents were registered with the participation of cyclists, in which 21 people were injured and 6 died," the sad statistics in the State Traffic Inspectorate.
Of particular danger to all road users is the dark time of the day, emphasized the UGAI. So, in the evening, at night or early in the morning, 27 accidents occurred in the region, in which pedestrians were not marked with retroreflective elements. As a result, 10 people died and 18 were injured. With cyclists in the dark, 3 accidents were recorded - one dead and two injured.
"A person in dark clothes is visible to the driver at a distance of 25-30 m with low beam headlights. Clothing with luminous inserts allows you to see a pedestrian or a cyclist at a distance of 130-140 m," the state traffic inspectors reminded.
In addition, during the days of the campaign, from November 26 to 29, traffic police officers will intensively work out sections of roads and rural settlements where the risks of accidents involving pedestrians are high. Road guards will work during peak hours, at night.
The State traffic inspectorate added that daily traffic police and other services remove pedestrians lying or inappropriately behaving from the roadway. "In most cases, these are people who are intoxicated and unable to control their behavior. They can easily sit down or lie down right in the middle of the road. And it is very important that those who witness such acts do not remain indifferent to what is happening and try their best to prevent the violator ", - emphasized in the department for agitation and propaganda.
Traffic police officers ask everyone who has witnessed how pedestrians or cyclists violate traffic rules to immediately report it to line 102. This will make it possible to prevent trouble.
