Fewer crimes in rural areas in Gomel region

January 31, Gomel. The number of crimes committed in rural areas has decreased in the Gomel region in 2022, Alexander Shastaylo, head of the regional executive committee’s Internal Affairs Directorate, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate, the result was influenced, among other things, by the comprehensive preventive work carried out in the region in cooperation with various departments and services. "Inspection commissions are working, which include employees of the internal affairs bodies. We are actively interacting with the chairmen of rural executive committees - both on security issues and on preventive measures. If such work is done systematically, then a positive result is achieved," Alexander Shastaylo is convinced.

He added that thanks to preventive work, the region also prevented the growth of crimes committed by people in a state of intoxication . "This was also facilitated by the referral of those suffering from chronic alcoholism to compulsory treatment in the conditions of LTP. Last year, 46% more such citizens were sent than in 2021," the head of the Department of Internal Affairs noted.

In the sphere of family and domestic relations, in 2022, the number of murders, facts of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm significantly decreased. And this is also the result of daily prevention, the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate is convinced.

Oleksandr Shastaylo drew attention to the fact that every week on Wednesdays, district police inspectors conduct personal receptions of citizens. "The district police officer is the closest policeman to people. This is especially true in rural areas. They turn to employees not only on those issues that fall within the competence of the police, but also on other issues, for example, domestic issues, to explain various nuances. And our district police officers provide all possible assistance , including the elderly," the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate emphasized.
