March 25, Gomel. The Dobrush District
Prosecutor's Office supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 42-year-old local resident. He is accused of violating traffic regulations while intoxicated.
A driver under the influence of alcohol , resulting in the death of a person through negligence , was reported to BelTA by the information service of the Gomel Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The fatal accident occurred in November of last year. According to the regional prosecutor's office, after planting winter crops in a field, the tractor driver was helping an acquaintance sow grain in a private plot using the farm's tractor and seeding unit.
"Then, after 6:00 PM, the driver, in a state of intoxication, decided to park the service vehicle in the farm's yard. En route, the left side of the seeding machine struck a female cyclist traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, the 39-year-old woman suffered serious bodily injuries, from which she died in the hospital a few days later," the regional prosecutor's office explained.
According to the state prosecution, the transport of the load—a seeding unit in working order—created a traffic safety hazard, as
it projected more than 0.4 meters beyond the vehicle's lateral dimensions and was not marked with identification signs. At night, it was not marked with a white light at the front and a red light at the rear. The Dobrush District
Court rendered a guilty verdict. The tractor driver was sentenced to four years' imprisonment under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code and is also disqualified from driving for eight years.
The verdict has entered into force.
