July 13, Brest. In the Brest regionthe drunk driver fled the scene of the accident, leaving behind an injured passenger, official representative of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the regional executive committee Natalya Milyukova told BELTA.

The accident happened on July 13 at about five o'clock in the morning. The BMW was driven by a 37-year-old man. According to preliminary information, on Sovetskaya Street in the village of Kamenitsa-Zhirovetskaya, the driver lost control and rammed the fence of two households, then crashed into a parked Chevrolet, and then into an outbuilding. The culprit of the accident left the crippled car and fled the scene, leaving a wounded 44-year-old passenger. The victim was hospitalized.

Soon the runaway driver was detained by traffic police. It turned out that he was drunk - 0.7 ppm of alcohol.

As a result of the accident, cars, ten spans of fences, a road sign, an outbuilding, and green spaces were damaged.

“By leaving the scene of an accident, the driver, having already committed one crime, commits a second one. Indifference often costs the most precious thing - human life. Sooner or later the culprits are found, and leaving the scene of the accident only aggravates the situation,” emphasized Natalya Milyukova. This is subject to administrative liability in the form of a fine from 5 to 25 basic units or deprivation of a driver’s license for up to two years. Leaving a victim in a life-threatening condition is punishable by criminal liability in the form of arrest for up to six months or imprisonment for up to three years.

Since the beginning of this year, 13 accidents have occurred in the Brest region due to the fault of drunk drivers. In these accidents, three people were killed and 17 were injured.
