24 March, MINSK . Last year, the number of children who died from external causes increased by a third. The main causes were suicides, road accidents, drownings and fires. This was stated by Deputy HEAD of the Main Department - Head of the Department for Supervision in the Social Sphere of the Prosecutor General's Office Pavel Zaitsev at a press conference entitled "Preventive Measures to Prevent Losses of Life. Interaction of Departments", a BELTA correspondent reports. The Prosecutor

General's Office systematically carries out supervisory measures in the sphere of ensuring the safety of the population. Thus, in 2024 , over 350 inspections were conducted, based on the results of which 265 representations, 480 orders were issued, 1.2 thousand citizens were warned about the inadmissibility of repeated violations of the law. Based on the results of supervisory activities, over 800 people were brought to disciplinary and administrative responsibility.

"Over the past year, there has been a decrease in the number of drownings, industrial injuries, deaths in road accidents, as well as from poisoning with ALCOHOL, drugs and psychotropic substances. However, there has been an increase in the number of deaths in fires," noted Pavel Zaitsev.

According to him, the main causes of death on the water are walking on ice in a state ofalcohol intoxication and swimming in prohibited places. "We also identified shortcomings in the activities of local authorities and prevention entities. For example, there is a problem with the equipment of swimming beaches - their number and location do not always meet the needs of the population. And this entails swimming in prohibited places. In addition, not all beaches are equipped with lifeguard posts," said the deputy head of the main department.

"The main causes of accidents at work continue to be violations of labor discipline by workers, their personal carelessness and drunkenness in the workplace. The most dangerous industries are agriculture and construction, - emphasized Pavel Zaitsev. - During supervisory activities, shortcomings in the work of both employers and other prevention entities are revealed."

The prosecutor's office pays great attention to issues of child deaths. "Last year, the number of children who died from external causes increased by a third. The main causes were suicides, road accidents, drownings and fires. In most cases, deaths were caused by children's carelessness and negligence, often parents did not properly fulfill their responsibilities for the upbringing and maintenance of children," the deputy head emphasized.

Now the holidays have begun, and children are increasingly left to their own devices. "In connection with this, the risk of both domestic and street injuries and deaths increases. Parents need to tighten control over their children's pastime, explain safety rules on the water, road, ensure the serviceability of bicycles, scooters, gyroscooters," Pavel Zaitsev reminded.

"An analysis of the causes of death of citizens, the conditions that contribute to this, the effectiveness of the implementation of functions by interested departments, allows us to make proposals to improve the current legislation. In addition, government agencies, based on our proposals, are taking a number of measures to prevent child deaths and injuries, and are developing a set of measures for the information security of minors on the Internet. Work is also being completed on a bill to strengthen the administrative responsibility of parents for failure to fulfill their responsibilities for the upbringing and maintenance of children. Approaches to dysfunctional families have been changed, proposals have been developed to combat the advertising of narcotics. Proposals have been formed to strengthen approaches to compulsory treatment of citizens suffering from ALCOHOLISM, drug addiction, and pedophilia, which will help reduce the number of deaths," concluded Pavel Zaitsev.
