A joint study by scientists from Israel and Iceland showed the effectiveness of spirulina algae extract in preventing severe complications in people infected with Coronavirus.

The results of laboratory experiments were published in the international scientific journal Marine Biotechnology. The experiments were conducted at the cellular level and have not yet been tested on humans.

Scientists have found that spirulina extract overwhelmingly suppresses the release of low-molecular-weight cytokine protein, which is released in excessive amounts during infection with coronavirus, causing an overreaction of the immune system and lead to massive inflammatory reactions, mainly in the respiratory system. IT is lung damage triggered by the so-called cytokine storm that most often leads to death in patients with COVID-19.

claims that the results of studies have clearly shown - the use of spirulina extract can inhibit the release of cytokine, prevent the development of massive inflammation and reduce the risk of severe and irreversible consequences.

In addition, according to Tsahor, the value of the experiment lies in the fact that it is an exclusively natural component - spirulina is approved in most countries as a dietary remedy.

It is known that in ancient times, spirulina was used as a food source (e.g. by the Aztecs) and was traded until the 15th century: dried algae, pressed into tortillas, were very popular as a separate meal or for cooking.
