“After the incident, the accused tried to escape, leaving the victims in danger and without providing them with urgent assistance. However, thanks to the coordinated actions of an eyewitness to the incident - the BMW driver, who began to pursue him, traffic police officers detained the defendant,” the prosecutor’s office recalled.

According to the conclusion of a forensic auto-technical examination, from the moment the “Pedestrian Crossing” road sign was visible, the accused had the technical ability to stop the car to the nearest border of the pedestrian crossing.

“The concentration of ethyl alcohol in the blood of the accused was at least 2.82 ppm. It was established that the driver had consumedalcohol immediately before the accident. Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Gomel pronounced a guilty verdict. Based on Part 4 of Article 317, Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code, the accused was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment to be served in a correctional colony under general regime conditions.
