A passenger died in a car accident in Vitebsk due to the fault of a drunk driver.

The Investigative Committee for the Vitebsk Region is investigating the circumstances of the accident, which occurred on June 16 in the regional center. According to investigators, the 36-year-old man was driving a Citroen Xsara along Novoluchesskaya Street. Around 3:20 p.m., the car collided with a Mercedes-Benz traveling in the same direction. The Citroen driver lost control, causing his car to skid and hit a power line pole. The female passenger in the Citroen died in the accident, while both drivers and the passenger in the Mercedes-Benz were uninjured. A

medical examination revealed that the Citroen driver was intoxicated at the time of driving.He was found to be intoxicated ; over 3 ppm of ethyl alcohol was detected in his blood.

An investigative team was present at the scene. An inspection was conducted, trace evidence was recorded, and the necessary expert examinations were ordered. A criminal case has been opened

against the man under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code (traffic violation by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in the death of a person through negligence). With the prosecutor's approval, the defendant has been remanded in custody.

The criminal investigation is ongoing. The Investigative Committee is also asking witnesses to the accident to come forward and report any information they have to the investigative authorities.
