January 19, Gomel. The Sovietsky District Court of Gomel delivered a verdict in a criminal case of robbery and theft, BelTA learned from the regional court.

The defendants in the case involved two young men from the regional center who decided to steal money from a mutual acquaintance . The intoxicated men came to his dormitory and began demanding money. As the regional prosecutor's office previously reported, they moved from threats to action: they kicked and punched the host, hitting him in the head and chest. Then, they took turns applying a heated iron to his face and exposed body parts. The violence lasted several hours. They stole approximately 600 Belarusian rubles from the victim's wallet.

"One of them, while intoxicated , secretly stole the victim's savings in dollars, euros, and Russian rubles—a total of more than Br6,200—from a closet in a dormitory room," the regional court noted.

During the court hearing, both defendants entered partial pleas of guilty. The court found one of them guilty of robbery committed by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code) and theft, a repeat offense (Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). He was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony and a 100-billion-ruble fine. It was also ordered that he undergo compulsory security measures and treatment for chronic alcoholism, which will be carried out at the place of serving his sentence. The court also ruled that the victim should pay him over Br6,200 in compensation for property damage.

The second defendant was found guilty of robbery committed by a group of persons. Under Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to nine years' imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony and a fine of 100 base units. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed and challenged in accordance with the established procedure.
