August 30, Gomel. In the Rechitsa district, drug users were detained in pursuit, BelTA was told by the information and public relations department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee.

Drug control operatives of the Rechitsa District Department of Internal Affairs received a signal that in the village of Vetkhin two people were pulling out poppies in the garden of a pensioner. Law enforcement officers went out to check and met the car of the alleged drug collectors. The chase began. The accomplices began throwing plants out of the car, as well as a blanket with the remains of the collected drug crop.

The operatives requested help from colleagues from the State Traffic Inspectorate. The pursued car constantly changed direction, trying to escape through the courtyards. However, law enforcement officers drove the car to a dead end. The driver of the foreign car was detained. The passenger tried to escape - he jumped out in the courtyards, but he was soon found.

The examination confirmed: the seized plants are a dangerous narcotic drug - poppy straw. The total weight when dried is over 1 kg.

Investigators opened a criminal case against the men for drug trafficking. The Internal Affairs Directorate clarified: the driver had previously been convicted of malicious hooliganism, and both accomplices were brought to administrative responsibility for violating traffic rules, anti-alcohol laws, and other offenses.

A pensioner, in whose garden drug users pulled out poppies, was also brought to administrative responsibility for illegally sowing and growing plants containing narcotic drugs.
