"Swearers are not allowed to enter!" What rules should the homeless follow in the Brest rooming house

On November 1, a night stay department for the homeless was opened in Brest, designed for 12 people. We visited it and found out how many people want to get here and who can never become a guest here.

Swearers are not allowed to enter

The nochlezhka is located in the center of Brest - in hostel No. 2 of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "ZhREU" on Menzhinsky Street, 28. It occupies part of the first floor. For the homeless, there is a separate entrance - so as not to embarrass other residents. Accommodation for the night is offered in three rooms: two for men, one for women. Each room has two bunk beds, a wardrobe and bedside tables. Facilities and shower - on the floor.

“We send the homeless for a medical examination to the polyclinic. They also do an express test for CORONAVIRUS. If the doctors say that everything is fine with the patient, he comes to us. the road is closed to drunks. Further - sanitation. A person leaves his clothes here, and he himself goes to a special shower so as not to bring, for example, lice into the department. We give him new things, they are brought by caring people and volunteers from the Red Cross. Then we conclude with a homeless agreement. First, for a month, if necessary, we can extend the period up to one year, "explains Sergey Voronin, DIRECTOR of the territorial center for social services for the population of the Moskovsky district of Brest.

New guests are accepted from 18.00 to 20.00. As soon as a person has passed all the necessary procedures, the door is closed, and he remains under the supervision of social workers and a policeman until 8.00. It is strictly forbidden to go outside until morning. In general, the rooming house has rather strict rules. For example, you can not drink ALCOHOL and drugs, smoke and even swear. It is forbidden to talk loudly and make noise, and after lights out at 23.00, the lights are turned off in the rooms.

"In case of systematic violations of the contract, we break the contract unilaterally. Our goal is to socialize a person, since most of the homeless are lost to society. We are ready to give them ground under their feet, from which they can push off and start living again. Therefore, it is important that they behave normally, did not cause problems to others. Otherwise, nothing will come of it, "Sergey Voronin is sure.

Valery Polyanchuk: "Sometimes it's a shame: you go to people with good intentions, but they reject help. But I'm not upset, because going up is always more difficult than going down."

"Until a homeless person wants to get out of the dumpster and achieve a better life, no one will force him to do it."

New life brick by brick

Only those who had housing and a residence permit in Brest, but for some reason ended up on the street, can get into the rooming house.

“There was a case: a man comes and says that he is from Grodno, he has an apartment there. The question is: why did you come here then? We accept only those who are really homeless now,” Sergey Voronin emphasizes.

The overnight stay is empty. Although several potential guests had already been brought here, they themselves refused to stay.

“During the first week of work, ten people came: some were sent by the district police, some heard about us at the free feeding point and decided to just come and see. So far, no one has stayed - some live with relatives, others with friends. We explain to them that we will help you find a job, restore documents, apply for a pension or disability, if necessary. But they don’t need anything - everything suits them. It is very difficult to motivate such people to change their lives, "explains the HEAD of the department of night stay for persons no fixed abode Valery Polyanchuk.

Just at this moment, the police bring two tramps. Valery Sergeevich goes to talk to them, but after 10 minutes he returns with nothing: “Two guys. One has a registration in Brest, lives in a private house not far from the city. The second wife evicted after a divorce, moved to a friend’s dacha. he refuses to restore the documents. He says he already has a passport: two years ago, his sister took the papers to the passport office, but somehow it’s impossible to pick it up, there’s no time. What kind of socialization can we talk about? Such a life suits a person. there is extra money, the money you get can be spent on drink in the evening. Until he himself wants to change, get out of the dumpster and achieve a better life, no one will force him to do it. "

Nevertheless, Valery Polyanchuk is sure that with the advent of frost, there should be more people wishing to spend the night in a warm place. Also, the department is going to work with people who have recently returned from places of deprivation of liberty.

“It happens that a person served 10 years, during which time he lost his registration. We even had such a case. A guy born in 1989 went to prison and while he was there, his father died. Since the apartment was not privatized, he was left without registration and housing "Now I'm looking for this young man. I believe that it is still possible to save him: to find a job, to provide housing for the first time, and then, you see, they will give him a hostel from work, and he will start building his new life brick by brick," the manager hopes.

Br60,000 was allocated from the budget of the Brest City Executive Committee for the implementation of the project. This money was used to refurbish the premises and purchase everything needed.
