April 19, Minsk. On the issue of ensuring law and order, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko paid special attention to the need to combat drug trafficking, BelTA has learned.
“The situation with illegal drug trafficking is alarming. Again, there is a tendency to increase imported drugs and psychotropics, low efficiency in identifying large distributors and, above all, organizers of the drug business,” Alexander Lukashenko stated.
According to the President, last year the number of people who died from overdoses increased significantly. The number of minors involved in criminal activity is growing. "The issues of organizing educational and upbringing processes, employment of children outside of school are acute," the head of state drew attention.Another problem is the death of citizens from external causes. In 2021, deaths from fires and drownings increased. At the same time, the number of deaths from these causes is one third higher than the number of people who died from crimes - 1155 versus 824. At the same time, three-quarters of those who drowned and more than half of those who died in fires were intoxicated at the time of death.
“When I get acquainted with these figures, I think: how we worry about the fact that in our country, God forbid, someone will die defending our Fatherland, our Motherland. Almost 1,200 died, drowned drunk, burned down the hut, lying they smoked in bed while drunk (mostly such causes of death) - no one is worried here, supposedly everything is fine. 1200! In the Afghan war, so many people died in a year, "the Belarusian leader noted.
“There are clear shortcomings of local authorities and other crime prevention entities,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized. “I expect the Prosecutor General not only to analyze the crime situation, but also to comply with the law by state bodies and organizations in the most sensitive areas for society.”
