According to the investigation, on the morning of April 20 in Zelva, the bodies of a 46-year-old man and his 83-year-old mother were found in their home. A colleague of the deceased raised the alarm when he did not find the man at his workplace. Concerned, he went to his colleague’s house, where he found his lifeless body on the veranda, which he reported to law enforcement. The body of his elderly mother was also found at the scene. Relatives of the family said that the deceased man had a large amount of money, which he kept in a safe, but investigators did not find it in the house.
A 28-year-old resident of the regional center was detained on suspicion of theft. Initially, the man put forward several versions of what happened, but under the weight of the collected evidence, he admitted to the double murder. With his participation, an on-site verification of testimony was carried out, during which the man spoke in detail about the circumstances of the crimes committed.
As it turned out, he had been playing in online casinos since the summer of 2023, where he often lost, and as a result he had large debts to his acquaintances. The man also borrowed money from his future victim, and saw that the funds were kept in a safe. According to the criminal case materials, on the evening of April 19, he went to a friend’s house. On the porch of the house they drankALCOHOL , later they entered the house. The 28-year-old man again began to ask to borrow money, but in response he heard a request to leave the house. At some point, while on the veranda, a 28-year-old local resident began to strangle an acquaintance, and when he realized that he was not breathing, he went to the safe for money.
But then the attacker realized that the elderly mother of the murdered man, who had been sleeping before, woke up. To get rid of the witness, the killer strangled her too. After that, he took the safe and opened it in his garage. The cache contained Br20 thousand and about $1.5 thousand. The murderer spent it in an online casino, to pay off debts and buy alcohol.
Covering his tracks, the defendant threw away some of the clothes he was wearing that evening and got rid of the safe. To hide the fact that he called the future victim and agreed to meet, the man threw away the phone of the murdered man, which he took from the crime scene.
A criminal case has been opened against a 28-year-old resident of Zelva under paragraphs 1, 2, 12, part 2 of article 139 (murder of two persons, including an obviously elderly person, committed for mercenary reasons) and part 3 of article 205 (theft committed on a large scale) of the Criminal Code.
