March 25, MINSK. On March 25-27, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Minsk region is conducting a preventive action "Sober Driver", BelTA learned from the traffic police department of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
The action is aimed at preventing and suppressing the facts of driving vehicles by drunk drivers as one of the main causes of road accidents with serious consequences.
Patrol of militia squads is close to the objects of trade in alcoholic beverages, entertainment establishments, gas stations, especially those operating around the clock. Raid events will be held throughout the region.
“Despite the measures taken to prevent and suppress the facts of driving vehicles by persons in a state of intoxication, the level of road accidents involving drunk drivers remains high. Since the beginning of this year, four road accidents have occurred on the roads of the Minsk region for this reason, in which two people died and three received injuries of varying severity," the police department said.
For example, on March 15, at about 13.30, on the 46th km of the Minsk-Vitebsk highway, a resident of the Logoisk district in a SKODA Forman car was driving from Logoisk in the direction of Pleshchenitsy. At the roundabout of the road, he lost control, drove into a ditch and crashed into a tree. As a result, a 41-year-old passenger was injured, who was hospitalized with an open craniocerebral injury. The driver himself was not injured. it was established that the perpetrator of the accident drove the car while intoxicated (2.88 ppm). He had previously been disqualified for driving while intoxicated. The driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts.
