Oncoming Traffic Accident. Voronovsky District Court Sentences Driver Who Got Behind the Wheel Drunk

27 December, Grodno. In Voronovo District, a COURT sentenced a driver who caused a traffic accident while intoxicated, BelTA learned from the Grodno Regional Court.

According to the case materials, on 12 September 2024 , the accused , while in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication , lost control of the taxi, drove into the oncoming traffic lane and collided with an oncoming Opel Astra. As a result of the accident, the driver of the oncoming car suffered serious bodily harm.
 
At the court hearing, the man admitted his guilt and refused to testify. When sentencing, the court took into account his sincere repentance for his actions, voluntary compensation for the damage caused by the crime, and other actions aimed at making amends.

By the court's verdict, the accused was found guilty of violating traffic rules while intoxicated, which resulted in the infliction of serious bodily harm through negligence. Based on Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years in a penal colony in a settlement with the deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the management of vehicles for 6 years.

Also, the accused was ordered to pay Br1.2 thousand in expenses for payment of the representative's assistance in favor of the victim.

The court's verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed and contested in accordance with the procedure established by law.
