There was a time when the profession of a district police officer was considered one of the most prestigious and difficult, and books and films were dedicated to it, for example, about the village detective Aniskin, popular in the Soviet years. Now this “specialization” of police officers is also shrouded in a certain flair of romance and is still one of the most difficult. Since childhood, Vitebsk resident Alexey Kruglik dreamed of devoting himself to service - in the army or police. Life's roads led him to law enforcement agencies. He is in good standing at the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Vitebsk, and this year he participated in a professional skills competition. On the eve of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the district police service in Belarus, which is celebrated today, the young man told a BELTA correspondent how he decided to become a district police officer, what he considers his small victory, how he finds a common language with the residents of his district and where he spends his free time.

The male profession called Alexey Kruglik thanks, oddly enough, to his mother’s work. She was a telephone operator in a military unit and often took her son with her. Watching the soldiers and their way of life, the boy was so imbued with the spirit of courage and strength of the defenders of the Fatherland that he did not see himself anywhere else except in serving his country and people.

He graduated from college with a degree in industrial engineering and then, on the recommendation of a friend, came to the Security Department, where he started as a patrol guard. At MITSO, Alexey studied jurisprudence, so he knows the letter of the law both theoretically and practically. Having received the rank of officer after university and retraining, Alexey Kruglik wanted to try his hand at further service, and since there were no vacant positions in the security department, he went to the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs to become a district police officer.

“Friends dissuaded me from doing this, they said that the work was very difficult, fraught with danger and an irregular schedule. They said that it would be difficult, many, they say, could not stand it. And yet I decided to take a risk, and since February 2021 I have been working here. I I don’t regret choosing this specialty, because it is very multifaceted and diverse,” shared Alexey Kruglik.

When the young district police officer took his first steps, he was assigned an experienced officer who had served in the police for many years. By that time, he had worked in the internal affairs bodies for decades, was responsible for one of the most difficult areas, where there were many nightclubs, public catering facilities, and on certain days the situation around them worsened. The mentor taught his ward everything that a policeman at his station was supposed to know, but his pedagogical methodology was unique.

“He introduced me to the documentation, handed me folders with cases and said: “Go and study on the spot.” He believed that the best way to get to know the people and organizations in the entrusted area is through direct contact and communication. This method is akin to when they conduct an express -swimming training: they throw you into the water - and nature takes its toll, you immediately learn to float on the water. I am very grateful to him. He has already retired, but we continue to communicate. If I need some kind of advice, I call my mentor, he never refuses help,” Alexey Kruglik spoke warmly about his teacher.

He quickly settled into the team, became a close-knit team with his colleagues, and communicates with them outside of work. “It’s nice to work with people who can always come to the rescue and to whom you are ready to lend a shoulder at any time,” the Vitebsk district police officer said about the atmosphere in the team.

The young addition now looks to him as a mentor. In less than three years of service in this position, the Vitebsk resident has developed his own professional tricks. “It’s very easy for me to communicate with people. I consider myself lucky to some extent, because my communication abilities are rather innate. In any situation, I try to resolve the matter with words. If someone behaves aggressively, defiantly, then I try to smooth it over , to convince that one should not get into trouble. My style is a calm and diplomatic conversation. Even where I disagree with something, when the fire is raging inside, because I see injustice, I try to control myself. I am convinced that This manner of behavior has a convincing effect on everyone and helps to cool down the rowdy,” the district police officer shared.

With such restraint it is time to negotiate at the highest level. The Vitebsk district police officer recommends that his younger colleagues learn self-control, because in many situations this is what saves them from trouble.

In his work, Alexey Kruglik has to communicate not only with law-abiding citizens. There are also those on his site who have been friends with the bottle for many years, but at home they do not behave in the most pleasant way. “I can speak from the experience of my work that admonitions and conversations with such people do not have such a positive effect as sending them to a medical treatment center. If a person there is affected by the situation and distance from home, separation from loved ones, then he corrects himself. Unfortunately, he is forced admit that out of ten ALCOHOL lovers, eight do not give up their addiction, and not only their HEALTH , but also their families suffer from this,” said the Vitebsk resident.

During his service, Alexey Kruglik considered various cases. He especially remembered one thing because he had a happy continuation. One day a young woman came to him and reported that her husband was beating her. She was pregnant and feared not only for her life, but also for her unborn baby.

“What struck me most in this story was how calmly the domestic aggressor treated his deeds. He was from a prosperous family, he had a good job, but he considered it permissible to treat his wife, especially pregnant, so cruelly. As a result, they divorced, my ward had a healthy baby. She lives with her parents, and everything is going well in her personal life. Now, when I meet her at the station, I see how happy her eyes are shining, and I remember how intimidated she was when she decided to declare an abusive husband,” the district police officer shared and added that he considers such cases to some extent his small victory, because his participation helped to resolve everything successfully.

Despite his relatively short experience directly in the local police service, Alexey decided to test himself in a professional skills competition. Last year he took part in the regional stage of the competition for the title of best district inspector, but was slightly behind the top three. This year he won bronze and went to the republic to defend the honor of the northern region.

“Two of my colleagues from the region who took first place have been participating in such competitions for a long time, they have a lot of experience, and at first I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to perform as well as them. But then I thought that I would make every effort to "bring our team to at least the first team place. Next year I will prepare for the competition again, more carefully and diligently, in order to prove at least to myself that I can achieve high results," said Alexey. This year he failed to become a prize-winner at the republican stage, but he believes that he gained invaluable experience from his first participation in competitions of this level.

In his free time from work, which a police officer usually has little, Alexey goes fishing. It has its own favorite reservoirs, where they bite significant trophies. For example, in the Liozny district he managed to catch a pike weighing almost 5 kg, and in the Vitebsk region in the Western Dvina he once caught two large bream in a row - about 3.5 kg each. In addition to fishing, the Vitebsk resident also likes to cook fish. He salts, dries, smokes, bakes, fries and comes up with all sorts of dishes. The young man considers time spent in nature with a fishing rod to be an excellent recharge and relaxation.

A district police officer always needs to keep himself in excellent physical shape, and therefore Alexey trains not only to pass various standards, but also for the soul. Running for several kilometers over rough terrain (fortunately there are conditions for this, since he lives on the outskirts of the city, near a forest), exercise is an almost daily exercise that the Vitebsk resident performs, as they say, not by order, but of his own free will.

He warmly calls the area where Alexey Kruglik works “my land.” These words emanate something from Kolasov, family and friends, which you want to take care of and protect from any negativity. It’s like a big house where the whole family, friends, close people who know you and whom you know have gathered, are confident in them and are ready to help everyone and protect everyone.
