January 28, Vitebsk. In the market of the Vitebsk region in 2021, domestically produced goods prevailed; in the food group, their share in the total turnover amounted to 80%, which was the best indicator among the regions. This was reported to a BelTA correspondent in the main department of trade and services of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

"Mainly domestic products provided consumer demand for MEAT and meat products, cheeses, butter, eggs, alcoholic beverages. Sales of Belarusian motor fuel, construction materials, underwear, hosiery increased in non-food products. The level of sales of non-food products, the share of which in the structure of retail trade turnover of trade organizations is 43.3%, increased in comparable prices to the level of 2020 by 3.6%," the department said.

Last year, the volume of sales of FLOUR confectionery, fish and fish products, canned meat, mineral water, baby food, and low-alcohol drinks also increased. In the group of non-food products, sales of household washing machines and clothes dryers, household cleaning products, shoes, outerwear and underwear increased.

In total, in 2021, goods worth Br5.9 billion were sold to the population of the region. Compared to the previous year, the trade turnover increased by 1.5%. More than 90% of the retail turnover (Br5.4 billion) was provided by trade organizations.

"In order to create a comfortable consumer environment in the region, systematic work is underway to develop the retail infrastructure. In 2021, the retail space of stores increased by 28.2 thousand square meters. New large retail facilities appeared in Vitebsk and Orsha. Today, more than 13 thousand . shopping facilities of various formats, 80 shopping centers, 55 markets," the department's specialists emphasized.

In the field of catering in 2021, there has been an increase in trade by almost 11%. To a certain extent, it occurred due to the low activity of consumers in 2020, when, in difficult epidemiological conditions, custom events at catering establishments were limited. Then there was an outflow of visitors, a reduction in the opening hours of cafes and restaurants. In 2021, the situation improved, and catering facilities were able to sell products worth more than Br253 million to the population of the region.

"In the field of public catering last year, due to new construction, reconstruction and resumption of work, 87 objects for 1755 places were put into operation, including 84 public objects for 1677 places. The public catering infrastructure of the region now includes 1.7 thousand public catering facilities for 89.4 thousand seats," the department added.
