At the Moscow branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science "Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology", a special commission is considering the issue of including venison and northern fish in the diet of Russian cosmonauts.
Three Yamal manufacturers: Salekhard Plant LLC, Yamal Oleni MP and Payuta Municipal Unitary Enterprise will present about 30 products of their own production. Among them are canned fish, stewed meat and venison pates, as well as fish and meat delicacies.
“Canned food produced at the Salekhard plant has already been in space. Before sending, they passed all the necessary checks, including tasting by astronauts. We are awaiting the decision of the selection committee. Expanding the range of fish products and adding Yamal venison to the Roscosmos menu is an important step for our farmers and the district as a whole,” Andrey Rubashin, director of the department of agro-industrial complex of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Reindeer
meat is considered one of the cleanest and safest products for humans. Yamal deer graze freely in the vast northern tundra, which reduces the risk of animal diseases. They eat organic food and undergo regular veterinary procedures. Yamal venison is used to produce hypoallergenic, nutritious and safe products containing microelements and vitamins beneficial to humans.
Last year, Yamal produced 2,500 tons of reindeer meat products and more than 3,000 tons of fish products caught in Yamal rivers. Over 400 types of deer and northern fish products are available for purchase in 130 stores in the county and beyond. Famous Russian restaurateurs are showing interest in Yamal venison, and today dishes from Yamal venison can be tasted in restaurants in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities.
