Within the framework of the Republican festival "Golden Apricot of Dagestan" in the National Library named after R. Gamzatov, a scientific and practical conference was held on the topic: "Gardening of Dagestan. Potential and Prospects for Development”.
The event, which was held under the leadership of the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan Sharip Sharipov, was attended by heads of leading horticultural farms in many regions of the republic, representatives of federal and republican departments operating in the field of agro-industrial complex, heads and scientists of the Federal Research Center of the Republic of Dagestan, DagGAU and the Mountain Botanical Garden DSC RAS and a number of other scientific institutions. The conference was also attended by the chairman of the Union of Gardeners of the Krasnodar Territory Nikolai Shcherbakov, who from the first days of intensive gardening in Dagestan has been actively involved in solving the problems of gardeners in Dagestan, including the supply of planting material.
At the event, practicing gardeners had the opportunity to exchange views, raise burning issues of the industry, identify problems faced by gardeners, and scientists to propose forms of cooperation and directions for scientifically based solutions to issues of further development of gardening in Dagestan. Horticulturalists highlighted the increasing occurrence and spread of diseases and pests of horticultural crops, the fight against which requires additional costs, and, accordingly, a request was made to provide consulting support to minimize the harm from such adverse events in horticultural practice.
As the First Deputy Minister noted, Dagestan is one of the leading horticultural regions, the republic ranks third in the country in terms of fruit and berry production, and also demonstrates a steady trend in the rate of planting orchards. More than 4,000 hectares of intensive-type orchards alone have been planted in the republic in recent years. There are plans and projects of potential investors to further increase the area of garden plantings.
At the same time, the issue of raising scientific and methodological support for the development of horticulture in the Republic of Dagestan to a higher level is extremely acute. it is very important to advise potential investors, suggest and help to reasonably approach the laying of orchards, first of all, by determining the garden suitability of the relevant land plots, and then organize close scientific support during the technological period of the project. In this connection
Sh. Sharipov proposed assigning leading scientists to the leading horticultural farms, who would travel, study, analyze and advise gardeners on various issues of the industry. As part of the same work, we will have to more actively replicate the experience of leading horticultural farms, bring into our republican practice of horticulture the positive experience of other regions, including in terms of the development of nursery farming, since this area remains one of the narrow ones.
As a result of the event, it was indicated that the implementation of the existing huge potential of the republic in the field of horticulture requires the full involvement of advanced scientific thought and the systematic work of all interested state and municipal services. Well-coordinated interaction and prompt response to problems and production requests will effectively solve the tasks set to increase the production of fruits and berries.
