The Rostov region is included in the so-called FMD buffer zone, where it is necessary to carry out systematic immunization of farm animals. According to the terms of regionalization for foot and mouth disease, the region has the status of a territory “safe with vaccination”.
Since the beginning of 2021, veterinarians at the Rostov Regional Station for the Control of Animal Diseases have vaccinated 468.5 thousand heads of cattle and 289.5 thousand heads of small ruminants against foot-and-mouth disease.
Foot-and-mouth disease is infectious, spreads rapidly and is acute in artiodactyls. Signs of the disease: fever, erosion on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, interhoof gap, udder.
Foot-and-mouth disease is especially dangerous for young animals. The disease in calves occurs in an acute form and can lead to the death of animals. A person can become infected with foot-and-mouth disease by eating uncooked foods or by contact with a sick animal.
