The Chizhov family farm has prepared 440 hectares of arable land for the future planting season, which farmers literally reclaimed from the forest.
The farm of the Chizhov father and sons is relatively young. Crop farming began in 2021. And in 2022, they won a competitive selection for a grant to develop a family farm. We started with a sown area of 530 hectares, this year the arable land has already reached 1100 hectares, and in the future, in 2024, they plan to sow 1540 hectares of land.
The main crop is spring wheat, the Licamero variety. This year it gave a very good harvest, by Siberian standards - 42 c/ha. In some areas - up to 65 c/ha. For such high yields, farmers received an award from the administration of the Zyryansky district - the “Golden Ear” prize, one of the most honorable awards for agricultural workers.
“The Licamero wheat variety is considered high-yielding,” explained the secret of such success, Vladimir Chizhov , “the land was just put into circulation, rested. In addition, we applied fertilizers, fed the plants during the growing season, protected them from weeds and diseases.”
In addition to wheat, the Chizhovs’ farm also sows barley, the Biom variety. This year it showed a yield of 21 c/ha. We tried to sow buckwheat, but due to the drought we were not happy with the result.
“The drought that occurred this summer in May-June, just during the period when cereals are in the active phase of growth and development, greatly spoiled our nerves. But we couldn't do anything. In the end, only wheat coped with it. We have made certain conclusions and are planning to sow rapeseed on 300 hectares next year instead of buckwheat. It will go to our Sibirskaya Oliva for processing,” said Vladimir Chizhov.
After the harvest, the grain crops on the farm earn extra money on their own. For these purposes, grant funds were used to purchase a Max conveyor type grain dryer with a capacity of 25 tons/hour. Grant funds were also used to purchase an Agrator sowing complex with a working width of 7 meters and a Vector-410 grain harvester. A disc harrow will soon arrive on the farm. By the end of the year, farmers plan to purchase another sowing complex, but with a larger working width – 9 meters.
“The main difference between the Agrator seeding complexes is that they provide excellent quality of crops when working in fields with a large amount of plant residues. That is, precisely on fields like ours,” explains Vladimir Chizhov.
Let us remind you that most of the sown areas on the Chizhovs’ farm are former fallow lands. Moreover, the Chizhovs clean them using a technique invented by Alexander Chizhov, the youngest member of the family farm. This mechanism does not just fell trees, but uproots them. The unit, whose teeth resemble a shark's jaw, is attached to a tractor and can grab and pull out several young trees at once. The introduction of land into circulation is carried out with state support, which consists of compensation of costs in the amount of 50%.
