This year, the total sown area for grain harvest in the region amounted to about 1.6 million hectares. In 2022, the timing of grain ripening was due to the climatic conditions prevailing in early July, namely: a period of elevated temperatures, which accelerated the start of the harvesting campaign. The pioneers of the harvest this year were the agrarians of the Kantemirovskiy district, who were soon joined by grain growers from other southern districts of the region.
In the second ten days of July, more than 175 thousand hectares were mowed in the region. The gross harvest is 761 thousand tons with a yield of almost 43.5 centners per hectare, and the productivity indicator today is higher than the average multi-year level. Currently, farmers are harvesting winter and spring wheat, winter rye, barley, and peas.
Khokholsky, Liskinsky, Ostrogozhsky, Paninsky, Podgorensky, Pavlovsky districts are record holders in terms of yield, and grain growers of Bogucharsky district have threshed more than 100 thousand tons.
According to preliminary forecasts, the completion of the mass harvesting campaign of early grains is planned at the end of the second decade of August, after which the region will start harvesting late grains and legumes: millet, oats, soybeans, chickpeas, and corn.
Calculations show that, taking into account the completion of the harvesting of early and late grain crops, the gross grain harvest will exceed 5 million tons. Such volumes will allow not only to cover intraregional needs, but also to plan EXPORT and interregional deliveries.
This year, the success of our farmers is also pleasing in forage harvesting. By mid-July, about 160,000 hectares have been mowed, more than 200,000 tons of hay and almost 600,000 tons of haylage have been harvested.
All necessary stages of top dressing and protective work are being completed. All areas of crops were treated against pests and diseases.
