Farms in Tatarstan have begun harvesting forage for livestock. As of May 26, farmers have harvested over 10,000 tons of silage, primarily using winter crops, particularly winter rye. In six districts of the republic—Agryz, Yelabuga, Kaibitsky, Leninogorsk, Menzelinsky, and Muslyumovsky—winter rye is being mown for subsequent use as feed. Farmers in the Aznakayevo and Drozhzhanovsky districts have begun harvesting perennial grass silage.
This year's abundant moisture and favorable weather conditions are contributing to active grass growth. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan urges agricultural producers to redirect all resources to the timely and high-quality harvesting of forage after the completion of the sowing season.
This year, to provide the existing livestock with feed, 3.27 million tons of haylage, 3.74 million tons of silage, and 327 thousand tons of hay will be harvested. This will provide an average of 40 centners of feed units per HEAD of cattle.
To successfully complete the forage harvesting campaign, the republic has deployed an impressive fleet of agricultural machinery. 650 self-propelled forage harvesters, 500 self-propelled mowers, and 1,500 trailed and mounted mowers are working in the fields. This ensures that the assigned tasks will be completed in a timely and high-quality manner.
