For 6 months of 2021, over 1.5 million tons of potatoes were produced in Uzbekistan, which is 3.5% more than the same period last year, EastFruit analysts report citing data from the State Statistics Committee of the republic.
So, for the period from January to June 2021, the volume of potato production in Uzbekistan amounted to 1,543.8 thousand tons, which is 52.2 thousand tons or 3.5% more than in the first half of 2020. This is evidenced by preliminary data given in the report of the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Uzbekistan on agriculture of the country for the first half of this year.
EastFruit analysts note that in 2021, the dynamics of average wholesale prices for potatoes of the current year's crop is generally similar to last year. From the beginning of April to the end of June 2020, the average wholesale prices for potatoes of the current year's harvest decreased from 12,000 soums/kg ($1.25) to 3,400 soums/kg ($0.34), while for the same period in 2021, prices for these products decreased from 14,000 sum/kg ($1.34) to 3,500 sum/kg ($0.33).
From the beginning of July to mid-August 2021, the average wholesale prices for potatoes continued to decline to 3,000 UZS/kg ($0.28), which is in line with last year's levels in mid-August. However, current prices are 50% higher than the same date in 2019.
Thus, in the 2021 season, the average wholesale prices for potatoes of the current year's harvest in Uzbekistan generally repeat the dynamics and price levels of the 2020 season. At the same time, from June to mid-August 2019, the average wholesale prices for potatoes were from 1.5 to 2.5 times lower than for the same period in 2021.
The report of the statistical department of the republic notes that in January-June 2021, 1,421.0 thousand tons, or 92% of the total potato production in Uzbekistan, fall on dekhkan (personal subsidiary) farms. The remaining 122.8 thousand tons, or 8% - to the share of farms.
In relation to the same period in 2020, an increase in production was observed in farms by 7.3% and dekhkan (personal subsidiary) farms - by 3.4%.
About 74% of the total potato production falls on the total share of six regions of the country: Samarkand (18.5%), Surkhandarya (13.6%), Fergana (12.4%), Andijan (11.0%), Bukhara (9 .8%) and Tashkent (9.0%) regions. The total share of the remaining seven regions of the republic - producers of agricultural products amounted to 26%.
