Potato harvesting in full swing in the Lipetsk region

Potatoes are harvested in 9 districts. Work has already been completed in 5 districts.

As of October 14, 131.8 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested from 4.2 thousand hectares (77%) in the organized sector of production (agricultural organizations, peasant farms and individual entrepreneurs). At the moment, the average potato yield in the region is higher than last year and is 313.2 centners per hectare. In total, more than 5.4 thousand hectares have been allocated for this crop this year. This is almost 200 hectares more than a year earlier.

According to the recommended rational norms for the consumption of food products that meet modern requirements for a healthy diet, one person needs to eat 90 kg of potatoes per year. The need of the population of the region for this product is 101.5 thousand tons per year.

Last year, 393.9 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested in all categories of farms, including 177.8 thousand tons in the organized production sector.

“Despite the adverse weather conditions, the potato harvest is planned to be at the level of last year, since large agricultural enterprises grow it on irrigation,” explained Oleg Dolgikh, HEAD of the Lipetsk Region Agriculture Department.
