This year, farmer Kirill Fedulov created a family eco-farm “Shuyskaya Snail” in the village of Vvedenye. As part of a working trip to the Shuisky district, Denis Cherkesov, DIRECTOR of the Department of Agriculture and Food of the Ivanovo Region, visited the new farm and discussed the prospects for the further development of the family business.
“In 2020, the Russian Government included snail farming in the list of agricultural activities. This is the first snail farm in our region ,” said Denis Cherkesov. “In the Shuya region, in fact, there has already been a cluster where gastronomic tourism is developing: this is the CHEESE FACTORY in Shuya, where you can come to observe the cheese production process, Shuya Berries and the Nikolo-Shartomsky Monastery, which produces a large list of agricultural products. The snail farm will complement this tourist agricultural route,” he added.
Kirill Fedulov said that today the farm, on a field of six acres, organizes the cultivation of two types of Mediterranean snails: Helix Aspersa Muller and Helix Aspersa Maxima. At the end of May, the fry were planted in the field, and at the end of August they began collecting snails. The plan is to collect one and a half tons of snails. Fillet, liver, caviar and mucin are obtained from snails. “We will process snails and supply MEAT , liver and caviar to local restaurants. There is a demand among restaurateurs for such products. In addition, we will develop agrotourism and gastrotourism - organize excursions to the farm and master classes for adults and children. The plans include the construction of a cafe with a tasting room to receive tourists,” said the HEAD of the family farm.
They plan to expand the farm; after the formation of the broodstock, snail farming will be organized on a field of 1 hectare.
