The Republic of Dagestan is the leader in the Russian Federation in the production of lamb. For example, in 2020, we produced 31.4 thousand tons of lamb, which is 14.6 percent of the total production in RUSSIA and 49.8% of the North Caucasus Federal District. We are followed by the Republic of Kalmykia (25.2 thousand tons) and the Stavropol Territory (15.1 thousand tons).

In recent years, agricultural organizations of our republic have been increasing their production. They account for 21 percent of the total production of lamb in Dagestan, while in the whole country this figure is only 8%, and in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District - 16%.

Recall that according to the results of the National Competition "Tastes of Russia" held in 2020, the brand "Dagestan lamb" was in the top three leaders of the popular vote. This means that the mutton produced in Dagestan is recognized, there is a demand for it, and, accordingly, the number of people wishing to engage in its production is growing in the republic. Dagestan livestock breeders are increasingly beginning to switch to an intensive method of lamb production by fattening sheep on special sites.

The other day, the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan Sharip Sharipov got acquainted with the work of the feedlot of the SPK "Dzhurmut-1". On the trip, he was accompanied by the heads of the district agricultural departments of the Tlyaratinsky district Magomed Magomedov and the Gunibsky district Akhmed Khuchirov.

It should be noted that the Tlyaratinsky breeding farm SPK "Dzhurmut-1" today is one of the leaders in the introduction of modern technologies in animal husbandry, closely cooperates with the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding, whose specialists systematically visit this farm, accompany breeding work, help carry out work on artificial insemination of sheep.

About 1000 young sheep are placed on the feedlot of the farm. Among them are both the livestock of our traditional Dagestan mountain breed, and their crosses with the breed "Russian MEAT Menino" and with other domestic breeds of sheep. Crossing is also carried out here, there is the necessary laboratory. The necessary conditions for keeping sheep have been created, the established animal veterinary standards and other requirements are strictly observed.

Magomed Magomedov, HEAD of the Department of Agriculture of the Tlyaratinsky district, noted that today, in the context of an increased demand for Dagestan mutton, it became necessary to switch to innovative technologies, to search for new forms of increasing the productivity of sheep. Cooperation with leading Russian scientists gives the expected results, and we intend to continue such scientifically oriented work in other areas of sheep breeding.
As the first deputy head of the agrarian department emphasized, the agrarian agenda of Dagestan includes issues of increasing the efficiency of all agriculture among the priorities. Animal husbandry is a traditional and leading branch of the agro-industrial complex, primarily in the mountainous regions of the republic.

“It is gratifying that Dagestan is building up and strengthening its position in the production of lamb. In this direction, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan is doing a lot of work, attracting the best scientists, experts from leading research institutes to transfer our sheep breeding, our other livestock sub-sectors to a modern basis. The Tlyaratinsky SPK "Dzhurmut-1", the Gunib Agrofirms "Chokh" and "Sogratl", and some other Dagestan breeding sheep farms are our beacons that show an example of searching for and putting into practice the best innovative achievements. This approach to business works for the present and future of the agricultural sector of Dagestan. And accordingly, the task of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan is to continue in every possible way to support farms focused on the intensification of their production based on advanced solutions of agricultural science and practice”,
