Seed production of vegetable crops is actively developing in Dagestan

On Sunday, June 4, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Dagestan Sharip Sharipov visited the demonstration sites for vegetable seeds in the Derbent region. On the trip, he was accompanied by the director of the Dagestan Experimental Station, a branch of VIR, Kishtili Kurkiev.
They got acquainted with the crops in the villages of Nizhny Dzhalgan and Sabnova.
In Nizhny Dzhalgan, on the fields of Rizvan Yakubov, there is a demonstration site for the comparative testing of onion hybrids of domestic and foreign selection. According to the farmer, there is a significant difference between the crops - the crops of domestic seeds look much better. Kishtili Kurkiev confirmed these findings.
“Hybrids and varieties of the Poisk company are being tested here. We observed the development of plants throughout the growing season, and domestic selection wins, ”said the scientist.
In the farm of Rizvan Yakubov, an area of ​​​​about 50 hectares is annually allocated for vegetables. In August, the farmer plans to sow cabbage.
The production of seeds of cabbage and sugar beets is carried out in the village. Sabnov on the lands of Ibragim Kasumov. Here, 1 ha is allocated for each of these crops, which are sown with the seeds of the Breeding Station named after. N.N. Timofeev, established by the RGAU-MSHA them. K.A. Timiryazev.
“The Derbent region is unique in that on its territory it is possible to obtain seeds by the direct method, so scientists are willing to work in Dagestan,” Kishtili Kurkiev explained.
According to Sharip Sharipov, the development of seed production is actively supported by the authorities of the republic. In particular, grants are allocated from the regional budget for the development of this area, thanks to which the Dagestan Experimental Station, a branch of VIR, was able to increase the production of vegetable seeds from 3 tons to 10 tons in three years.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan is taking active measures to develop seed production of vegetable crops of domestic selection, for which we place demonstration crops in the regions of Dagestan in the framework of cooperation with Russian seed organizations. For example, in the Derbent region, these are onions, cabbage, beets, in Levashinsky - cabbage, in Khasavyurt - onions and other crops, in Kizlyar - tomatoes. On such sites, vegetable growers see the achievements of domestic selection, see how different varieties and hybrids behave in the field. In addition to the fact that domestic seeds are of high quality, they are also almost 4 times cheaper than foreign ones,” said the First Deputy Minister.
