Horse breeding is one of the traditional branches of animal husbandry in Buryatia. Ecologically clean living conditions such as grazing in natural meadows and state support for the maintenance of horses form a good basis for serious herd horse breeding.
In Buryatia, there are 120 farms specializing in horses, of which there is 1 breeding plant for breeding the Buryat breed of horses and 1 breeding reproducer for the Russian draft breed.
“In order to obtain breeding status, a farm must prove that it has a herd of highly productive breeding animals and uses purebred breeding, constantly working to improve the genetic potential of the animals. To obtain this status, the farms have been doing a lot of work for several years, proving the ongoing selection and breeding work. Registration of a breeding herd in the state register emphasizes the importance of the economy and opens up new opportunities for its development," the State Breeding Service of the Republic of Belarus notes in the GKU."
To date, four enterprises of the republic have immediately applied for a livestock survey at the All-Russian Research Institute of Horse Breeding of the Russian Federation. This is K(F)Kh Ulzytuev B.G. Dzhidinsky district and IP Rabdanov C-D. Kizhinginsky district, both claim the status of "Pedigree reproducer of the Russian draft breed". Also, K(F)X Dabaeva B.A. wants to acquire the breeding status for breeding the Buryat breed of horses. Okinsky district and K (F) X Dashieva E.I. Zakamensky district.
To obtain breeding status, the farms passed all the appropriate tests: all the genetic material was collected, the employees of the All-Russian Research Institute of Horse Breeding of the Russian Federation and the State Institution of the State Breeding of the Republic of Belarus carried out grading (assessment of a breeding horse for a number of characteristics) and labeling by chipping. In a few years, subject to the purity of the breed, the farms will be given the status of "Pedigree reproducer".
After gaining the status, enterprises can sell breeding stock, which will allow them to supply high-bred horses to other farms in Buryatia and beyond, thereby contributing to the preservation of the Buryat and Russian draft breeds and the improvement of their breeding qualities. In addition, when acquiring the status of a breeding farm, agricultural producers can receive increased state support for the maintenance of breeding stock.
