Greenhouse vegetable growing is one of the strongest agricultural sectors in the region. In 2021, 44.5 thousand tons of cucumbers, tomatoes and greens were produced in the greenhouses of the Novosibirsk Region, which is much more than is required to supply the domestic regional market.
Vegetable and potato growing in the Novosibirsk region continue to be one of the priorities for the development of agriculture. And if the region still partially imports vegetables of the “borscht set” from other subjects of the Russian Federation and neighboring countries, then the situation is reversed with greenhouse vegetables: cucumbers, tomatoes and green crops (dill, parsley, lettuce and others) are produced in the Novosibirsk region with a significant surplus surplus products are sold outside the region.
“Our region reached 100% self-sufficiency in protected ground vegetables back in 2020. At the end of 2021, thanks to the commissioning of another greenhouse complex, the provision of the Novosibirsk Region with greenhouse cucumbers increased to 123.7%, with greenhouse tomatoes and even more - up to 147.4%," said Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Agriculture of the Novosibirsk Region Evgeny Leshchenko.
Among the largest producers of protected ground vegetables in the region, the minister named the greenhouse complexes "Novosibirsk", "Tolmachevsky", "Obskoy", "Giant's Gardens", as well as Ecoservice-Agro LLC. The total area of greenhouses at these enterprises is over 50 hectares. In 2021, the plants produced 44.5 thousand tons of products, including 35.7 thousand tons of cucumbers and 7.2 thousand tons of tomatoes.
Industry enterprises provide vegetables not only to the Novosibirsk region, but also to neighboring regions. Evgeny Leshchenko noted that the products of Novosibirsk greenhouses are distinguished by consistently high quality. Thanks to modern technologies and the rejection of chemical means of protection, vegetables and herbs grown in greenhouses in the region are an environmentally friendly and healthy product.
For the sustainable development of the vegetable and potato growing industry in the Novosibirsk Region, state support measures are in place. The state program “Development of agriculture and regulation of the markets for agricultural products, raw materials and food in the Novosibirsk Region” provides for the reimbursement of plant growers for part of the costs of carrying out a complex of agrotechnological works, the purchase of elite and original seeds, an increase in the production of open-ground vegetables, the purchase and technical service of technical means and equipment for agricultural production and other support measures.
In addition, additional measures to support small agricultural businesses are being implemented in the region: farms, including those engaged in vegetable growing, can receive various types of grants.
