The Sirius.Summer: Start Your Project program was presented by the Talent and Success Foundation and the Sirius Educational Center as part of the Smart Vacation concept in May 2020.
Its goal is to involve talented young people in working on urgent tasks of Russian science and priority technologies for the development of their own regions. Schoolchildren choose a topic and find mentors from among the students and teachers of regional universities, who, in turn, help them understand the tasks and accompany them throughout the project.
Regional support for the project is provided by the Golden Section Fund for Supporting Talented Children and Youth.
Thus, together with the Ural State Agrarian University, schoolchildren will be able to develop biotechnological techniques for the production of bioyogurts. On the basis of the USAU dairy laboratory, the children will study raw materials, learn the intricacies of the production of fermented MILK products, develop their own bio-yogurt recipe with the addition of fillers (fruit or vegetable to choose from), come up with a packaging and name, evaluate the taste and quality characteristics of the finished product, and in addition, calculate the economic efficiency of bioyogurt production.
“The uniqueness of the program lies in the fact that schoolchildren can become authors of scientific and engineering projects, get in touch with solving urgent problems of Russian science and business. We are waiting for creative and purposeful guys who are ready to learn and experiment. Together we will try to solve the problem of creating a new recipe for a fermented milk product that will not only be useful, but will also add to the list of modern functional foods and, perhaps, will someday appear on store shelves, ”explained Olga Sergeevna Chechenikhina, project curator, DIRECTOR of the Center professional development of youth USAU.
You can join the large-scale project of the Sirius Educational Center until September 15 at https://siriusleto.ru/. Schoolchildren of grades 7-11, as well as minor students receiving secondary vocational education, can become participants in the program. During the academic year, the teams will work on the selected project, and then present it at all-Russian and international competitions. The industrial partners of the program will introduce the best solutions into production. Now in the system "Sirius.Online" about 600 projects are available for selection.
Last year, 3,723 schoolchildren took part in the first season of Sirius.Summer: Start Your Project, and 320 partners proposed more than 800 project tasks. During the entire academic year, participants worked in laboratories, visited production workshops, and listened to lectures by leading experts.
