Ural breeders have developed a new large-fruited pear variety

The new pear variety “Favoritka”, bred by scientists of the South Ural Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing, UrFARC, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements and recommended for cultivation in the Ural region (9).

The fruit crop is mainly characterized by large-fruited (pear weight reaches 300 grams) and winter hardiness (it can withstand cold down to -40 ° C). An adult tree is capable of producing about 30 kilograms of pears per season. In addition, the new variety has an excellent sweet taste, the flesh is white, juicy, fine-grained. The SUGAR content in fruits - 11.72%, acidity - 0.48%. Pear of universal purpose - can be consumed fresh, as well as used for processing (comotes, jams, preserves).

Variety "Favorite" obtained from crossing varieties "Dekabrinka" and "Forest Beauty". Work on its removal lasted about 20 years. In 1998, Chelyabinsk breeders singled out the variety as a promising form, and in 2008 they transferred it to the State Variety Test. During this time, pear seedlings were studied in the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Kurgan, Moscow regions, as well as in the Shushensky state fruit and berry variety testing site in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Bashkiria, Kazakhstan and even the Far East. And everywhere the culture received worthy reviews.

“The progenitors of the new variety were winter, large-fruited, with a long shelf life of up to 3 months, Dekabrinka, and the well-known and popular for over two hundred years, Forest Beauty. And the new variety "Favoritka" took the best from them - winter hardiness, large fruit, excellent sweet taste. In my opinion, this is the best “brainchild” of scientists of our institute in pear breeding, and I can say with confidence that the variety will meet the expectations of the most demanding gardener,” said Firudin Mammadaga oglu Gasimov, one of the authors of the “Favoritka” variety, a leading researcher South Ural Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing, Ph.D.

The new pear variety "Favoritka" is characterized by an autumn ripening period in late August - early September. The tree is medium with a rounded crown. The fruits are large, one-dimensional, the color in mature form is greenish-yellow with a slight tan of light yellow. The variety is resistant to diseases and pests, for example, to the popular pear gall mite.
You can buy a new variety of pear "Favoritka" in the YuUNIISK nursery (Chelyabinsk).

Help . The South Ural Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing (a structural subdivision of the Ural Federal Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) was founded on the initiative of I.V. Michurin 90 years ago. The main activity is fundamental and applied research in the field of breeding, seed production, technologies for the cultivation of fruit and berry crops and potatoes. Over the years, scientists of the institute have created highly productive varieties of fruit, berry crops and potatoes, which form the basis of the zoned assortment for the zone of risky farming - more than 300 varieties of horticultural crops and 34 potatoes. In addition, technologies for industrial and amateur gardening and potato growing have been developed.
