Potato harvesting is nearing completion in the Khabarovsk Territory. The Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Food and Processing Industry notes that the potato harvest this year is more intensive than last year. At the moment, agricultural organizations and farmers have harvested 8.7 thousand tons on an area of 828 hectares.
In total, 13 organizations and 86 peasant (farm) enterprises are engaged in potato production in the region. Traditionally, this culture is planted in large quantities in two districts: the name of Lazo and Khabarovsk. In recent years, farmers in the Amur and Komsomolsk regions have also been actively increasing their potato plantings.
The region's annual need for potatoes is about 150,000 tons. Upon completion of the harvesting, according to the forecast, about 99.4 thousand tons of potatoes will be harvested in farms of all categories, including personal subsidiary plots (117% of the 2020 level). This will amount to 59% of the level of self-sufficiency.
The missing volume of products of wholesale trade organizations is imported to the region from the neighboring Amur Region, Primorsky Territory and the Jewish Autonomous Region. Contracts are also concluded for deliveries from the Siberian and Ural federal districts, Rostov and Novgorod regions. In addition, potatoes are imported from Pakistan, Egypt and Israel. In order to curb price growth, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Khabarovsk Territory carries out weekly monitoring.
About a third of the grown products are sold by local agricultural producers through large retail chains, as well as at weekend fairs. ANO "Regional Agricultural Fund" also provides assistance in the sale of potatoes. This year, the fund has already purchased 371 tons of potatoes from the population and agricultural producers.
