Onion harvesting started in Stavropol

Onion is considered a rather unpretentious vegetable crop; Stavropol farmers grow it everywhere. So for this year's harvest, the area under onion plantings amounted to 1688 hectares.
“Currently, vegetable growers of the region have started harvesting a useful and irreplaceable vegetable - onion. The crop was harvested from an area of 30 hectares, 594 tons were harvested with an average yield of 198.17 c/ha,” said First Deputy Minister Elena Tambovtseva.
This crop accounts for more than a third of the open field vegetables grown in the region. The first to start harvesting onions was in the Budyonnovsky district, where 234 tons of onions were harvested, the farmers of the Trunovsky district - 360 tons.
Note that after harvestingexperienced vegetable growers carefully dry onions, observing the necessary temperature conditions and humidity levels, to ensure long-term storage, for further sale in the off-season, they select well-ripened heads with dense dry scales, thin necks, without signs of disease and mechanical damage.
This year, farmers growing vegetables in the open field and potatoes received 153.4 million rubles. Assistance from the state allows the enterprises of the agro-industrial complex of the region to compensate for part of the costs of growing products. The subsidy is provided within the framework of the federal project "Development of the Vegetable and Potato Growing Industries".
Last year, in terms of onion production, Stavropol Territory entered the top five regions. Farmers aim to keep the bar in the current season as well. The governor of the region Vladimir Vladimirov emphasizes that the harvest does not depend on the vagaries of the weather, the reconstruction and construction of new irrigation systems is actively carried out in the Stavropol Territory.
