Tomsk farmers will continue their collaboration with Ural breeders.

During a three-day visit to the Tomsk Region by an official delegation from the Sverdlovsk Region, several agreements on mutual cooperation in breeding and seed production were reached.
Yekaterinburg agricultural specialists, led by Sergey Sharapov, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Market of the Sverdlovsk Region, visited leading crop and livestock farms in the Tomsk, Asinovsky, Kozhevnikovsky, and Shegarsky districts and met with representatives of Tomsk agricultural science.
Following the visit, Tomsk and Yekaterinburg representatives reached an agreement on mutual cooperation in breeding and seed production.
it is expected that in 2025, the Belostok agricultural production cooperative in the Krivosheinsky District and the Aleksandr Varfolomeyev peasant farm in the Shegarsky District will purchase a trial batch of Krauf spring barley seeds. This mid-season grain forage variety was developed by the Ural Agrarian Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and is zoned in four regions, including West Siberia.
The parties also agreed to supply a trial batch of highly productive, drought- and disease-resistant Alaska and Terra potato varieties from the Urals to Zarechnoye LLC in the Tomsk District.
Furthermore, Tomsk residents will continue to exchange experiences with their Ural colleagues in the field of fruit and berry crop breeding. Specifically, SibNIISKhT and Bakcharskoye State Unitary Enterprise will provide them with planting material of their own selection.
"The Tomsk experience of collaboration between science and business, where science responds to a specific end-user request, was very valuable. This means that the breeders' work will definitely be in demand in the market. We also appreciated the practical experience of organizing industrial horticulture—organizing irrigation, fertilization, harvesting , etc. "The Tomsk and Sverdlovsk regions aren't direct neighbors or competitors, but they share a similar climate and have their own regional achievements in breeding, import substitution, and educational programs for agricultural producers. There are also many opportunities for mutual cooperation," shared Anton Chernitsky, DOCTOR of Biological Sciences and Chief Scientific Secretary of the Ural Federal Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
